Thermoception Infographic
Covers temperature sensitivity in neurodivergent individuals - including difficulty regulating body temperature and sensitivity to hot and cold.
Thermoception is the sense of temperature - both external (environmental) and internal (body temperature). Many neurodivergent people experience differences in how they detect and regulate temperature, which can affect comfort, clothing choices and daily routines.
Common experiences
- Wearing the same weight of clothing regardless of temperature
- Not noticing when they are too hot or too cold until extreme
- Heightened sensitivity to temperature changes in the environment
- Difficulty with transitions between warm and cold spaces
Practical adjustments
Flexible dress codes, temperature-controlled environments, and regular check-ins about comfort can all help neurodivergent people manage thermoceptive differences.
Who is this for?
Employers, educators, healthcare professionals, parents and carers, and anyone supporting neurodivergent people in daily life.
